The Mechanical Development Engineer has a wide responsibility for the development and success of new products and product lines, including both design and manufacturing processes.  This position serves as a key player on the design and development team that brings new railcar components and systems to market.

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensure projects progress and are completed in a timely manner relative to complexity and scope.
  • Evaluate new designs based on cost and performance, and redesign for efficiency and reliability. 
  • Prepare product, system, layout, and detailed drawings. 
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype products or systems.
  • Develop experimental test programs and evaluate results.
  • Communicate technical detail to other departments, from concept through production.
  • Provide proper training or training tools to customers for new products.
  • Assist Quality Assurance and Production to meet all required specifications.
  • Follow procedures and guidelines for design and document control.
  • Travel as needed domestically and internationally.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years professional experience.
  • Complex technical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to perform material selection, stress analysis, and tolerance studies.
  • Manufacturing exposure to machining, forging, casting, assembly, and welding.
  • Knowledge of fixture design, gage design, and inspection techniques.
  • Basic programming knowledge (Arduino, C/C++, etc.)
  • Extensive SolidWorks and Microsoft Office experience.
  • Good communication skills necessary for customer and vendor interaction.
  • Ability to manipulate and assemble components up to 50 lbs.
